This is a Now Page. Thanks to Derek Sivers for the inspiration. It differs from an About page (with historical info) in that it’s an overview of everything I’m currently doing.

We’ve been raising our daughter in a unique 50/50 “every other day” split. This compressed both of our work lives to 50% (same workload, half the time). But the upside of getting to watch Stella become an awesome little human every day is 100% worth the trade of all our former work/free time.

We began this experiment from the road. When she turned 1yr old in 2018, we took her to 25 countries in a one-way westward loop around the world for exactly 12 months (she was free to fly until 2 so we maximized every minute of it!). Evolve Faster with Scott Ely

Evolve Faster is my semi-serial, speculative fiction podcast. The concept evolved out of my 2015 TEDx Talk on How to Free Your Mind. Listeners have called it an “audio Black Mirror” and “fictional TED Talk.” Each episode is an original story exploring the challenges of creating meaning in life in our evolving high-tech culture.

Season One (Mind Unchained) had philosophical themes about mind and thinking more clearly. Season Two (Life, Upgraded) is about living better. It’s also a 10-episode cautionary tale about where society might be heading over the next 25 years. Currently writing the mid-season (non-fiction) episodes and Season Three (launching late-2020). Evolve Faster is my bloody fingerprint; a unique, artistic creation I finally manifested into being after years of trying to find my voice. It’s equal parts philosophy, creative fiction and self-improvement … making it nearly impossible to market. But I’m driven to create it just as it is, regardless of market potential, because the people that get it really dig it. I have other ideas to share that aren’t as abstract or philosophical, so my shiniest new project is the website you’re on right now …

ScottEly.net: Upgrade your Mindset

The podcast allows me to explore lots of big ideas, especially in science, philosophy and psychology. But the part that inspires me the most is how good ideas can enable us to change ourselves. If you do nothing in your life except continually upgrade your mindset — purging old ideas, rethinking the way you think, etc — you will have learned how to live better.

ScottEly.net (what I’m calling the Mind Habits laboratory) will endeavor to simplify the process of creating meaning in life. The science-based writing and platform here is driven by the simple question: Can becoming a valuable person be a simple mindset shift away?

Real Estate and Other Adventures

Real estate was my first (and always) entrepreneurial love which I’ve been doing half- (and sometimes full-) time for 2 decades. I also do a lot of digital real estate — Evolve Faster and ScottEly.net are two of the most recent virtual properties I’ve developed.

But the latest real development is plans to move to Colorado and build a house. We have designed a house in a style best described as modern mountain, to be built in a beautiful area of the Rocky Mountain foothills. This is a big change as our home base has always been Chicago. But we will be back a lot to visit friends, family, play gigs with my band and manage our properties. More to come on this front.

Reach Out / Outreach

Second only to questions about my personal research with psychedelic science, and my philosophy of life, I’ve been asked a lot about our RTW Trip (traveling with a baby). People are also curious about how the 50/50 working/child-rearing arrangement works … and sometimes doesn’t work! So I’m planning to write articles about both topics. So please join my email list if you’d like to learn about these ideas. Once you’ve joined, you can also reach out about other topics of interest to you.

On the other side of reaching out is outreach. After 2yrs of intense writing, production and work on the podcast, I’ve finally started to tell people about it. Johnny on the spot, I know. Creation is obviously much more of my thing than marketing. Anyway, it’s been featured in a few places and is slated to make some “best podcast” lists. If you like what you hear, please share it.
