The Science Of How to Live Better

I’m Scott Ely, creator of the Evolve Faster Podcast, fictional cautionary tales down the rabbit hole to exploring the struggle to finding meaning in our accelerating tech-culture. It’s my laboratory to explore challenging ideas. I don’t always get it right, but it’s an ever-evolving work in progress.

Over the 25 years since grad school, I’ve started several companies, failed, succeeded, and traveled to 75 countries (including taking our one-year old around the world for a year). If I’ve earned any wisdom it’s that evolution has rigged our game. Living happily and with meaning is impossible without perseverance and a practice of extensive mental retraining. And if there is any meaning in life, it is only that which we create.

Since my TEDx Talk in 2015, I’ve been on a writing journey exploring the idea that we can become happier, better humans through simple mindset shifts. This website for my personal brand, which I call Mind Habits, explores a framework of science-based tactics and tools (articles, newsletter and more to come) to literally rewire your brain, one day at a time.

Better Habits Create Meaning in Life

If Evolve Faster is about exploring a philosophy of life, then this Mind Habits lab here at ScottEly.net is a more of a personal guide to experimenting with the psychology and science of changing your life. Change is hard but critical to a life well-lived. This journey hopes to navigate three paths:

  • Habits of Mind: Foster a healthy mind using tools like mental models, buddhism, stoicism, and behavioral psychology.
  • Self-Improvement: Create a wealthy life though improved productivity and emotional intelligence for success in career, entrepreneurship and relationships.
  • Life Lessons: Cultivate a wise soul by expanding worldview into understanding culture, family, kids, success, love and death.
